Rabbits

Well here we are with more animals. I feel like I have a freaking zoo around here, but luckily in about a month when the weather cools off we can move these guys outside where they belong. Then I only have to deal with them for about 3 months out of the year in my house when it gets too hot.

Will and I decided to raise rabbits to feed to our dogs. Their vet food is becoming outrageously priced, and it is on back order due to the shortage of farmers raising rabbits for livestock due to the declining economy. So we are looking at preparing to transition our dogs to a raw diet, which is better for them anyway, but getting started is the long hard part.

So we have this temporary indoor housing for them. It is a dog kennel with a divider in it for now. Then when we move the rabbits outside to their permanent home, we can use this for the dogs while we are out of the house. So nothing is going to waste. We double use everything around here.

So here we go raising rabbits for meat. The kids and Will want to save the pelts and make something with them, which is fine by me, as long as I don't have to pay 220$ for dog food every two to three weeks.

Plus the kids are way excited to learn more about rabbits, and to see babies and all that. We will see how cool it is once we have to kill the first one, but for now we keep telling them it is for dog food, and they know that. We will constantly keep reminding them about that fact. But these are young rabbits and ready to make lots of babies. So they will be around for a long while.

So here we go...."Ehhh, what's up doc!!!!"

The girls trying out the bunny cages to make sure they were OK.
